I moved to Hollywood California in 1986 when I was 22 years old. I only knew 3 or 4 people when I moved here and started shooting Hollywood publicity parties right away. I assisted other photographers as an extra shooter at these parties and events. I eventually got in to shooting TV and movie production stills for publicity departments.
I learned everything I know about lighting after moving to Hollywood. At first, I didn’t even know how to work a camera flash but through trial and error, I mastered the skills of handling studio and natural lighting.
I enjoyed exploring Hollywood bookstores and checking out the work of the old classic Hollywood studio photographers such as George Hurrell, Lazlo Willinger, Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts, Annie Leibovitz, and Helmut Newton. After studying their work extensively, I try to emulate their techniques in all of my projects.
I’m shooting more video these days and I just love it! I create acting reels, short features, full-length movies, and live band videos. I love the whole process of creating video. From idea, to script, to pre-production, to shooting the movie and down to the final editing before presenting it to an audience.
